Engineering work in the field of NVH (Noise, Vibration, Harshness) is often characterized by last-minute corrective actions. These so-called "firefighting tasks" aim to eliminate unwanted noise and vibration at a late stage in product development. Measures taken at this point are typically short-term, cost-intensive, and inefficient.
This case study shows how such reactive efforts can be avoided by applying numerical simulation techniques to analyze dynamic system behavior early in the design phase of ship propulsion components.
